12 Feb IlGolosario – Samples from the fourth tasting
LIEDHOLM – Cuccaro Monferrato (AL)
Villa Boemia is an iconic place that still bears the imprint of “Baron” Nils Liedholm, who purchased the estate in 1973. Today, the property continues to promote native grape varieties, offering exquisite hospitality with Nordic-style rooms and tasting spaces. But it’s the wines, curated by winemaker Mario Ronco, that have made us notice a further leap forward.
The Monferrato Bianco “Grenoli” 2024 (sauvignon and chardonnay) opens with aromas of orange blossom and a light spiciness, displaying lovely acidity and great balance on the palate. Moving on to the reds, the Grignolino del Monferrato Casalese “Bricco della Boemia” 2024 is a celebration of typicity: a refined nose of berries and raspberry, with untamed tannins. (We named it the Top Hundred with the 2021 vintage, and this is a remarkable confirmation.) The red wine “Rosso della Boemia,” made from Barbera, Merlot, and Pinot Noir grapes, is deep and earthy, with notes of chocolate and a full, ample body. Finally, the Barbera d’Asti “Bricco Cascina Buzio” 2022: impenetrable color, a nose of expansive fruit and almond, for a crisp palate with restrained acidity. A truly typical Barbera from Monferrato, like all their other wines. And they also produce Monferace, an aged Grignolino of great impact.
